Thoughts on Doctor Who

I am a huge Doctor Who fan. Huge. Have been since I was a wee child. David Tennant was by far the greatest Doctor (I still love you Tom Baker), and I haven’t seen Matt Smith yet (I’m not fortunate enough to live in the UK and don’t have BBC America), but I’m sure he’s good. And I have full faith that this series will be fantastic as Steven Moffat is one of my favorite writers for the show. I do however have a suggestion: I feel that Callum Blue would make a fine twelfth Doctor. Just a thought.

On a side note: Why are really good television shows canceled after just a few seasons? Dead Like Me and Carnivale come to mind immediately. I don’t understand television bureaucracy.

Cupcakes and Mismatched Argyle Socks

I chose the banner picture because I am of the belief that cupcakes make everyone happy. Even if you don’t eat them, they seem to radiate a sort of cheer that is specific to that particular bundle of sugar-filled delight. I’m not sure if it’s a connection to childhood frivolity, or the simple cuteness of them; I don’t know what it is, but they make most people smile. Personal side note: vegan cupcakes are even more delightful.

So, cupcakes got me thinking about other things that elicit joy in an often depressing world. So I created a list:

Argyle
Mismatched socks
Fancy hats
Sweater vests
Non-profit organizations
Holding doors for strangers
Pocket watches
Bookstores (all, but particularly small, independent shops)
Local artwork in local coffee shops
Laughter (Seriously, it is the greatest sound in the universe)

So, in case anyone ever reads this blog, I encourage people to post their own list(s) of what makes them smile. The little things, the things that we often don’t realize make us smile until we stop and create a list.

Blogging: The New Printing Press

I have never blogged before, outside of a professional environment at least. But I hear it’s becoming an increasingly effective way for writers to…well, write. So, here we go:

The lowdown = I have very little idea of what exactly I will write. I could recount funny events in my life, or blog about the frustration of finding employment. Or write an ongoing children’s story…curiouser and curiouser. Otherwise, I imagine that fascinating quips and ideas will indeed pop into my head, and thus appear magically on the interweb for your, or maybe just my, enjoyment…or distaste. Who knows.
